HOW CAN WE TELL THE STORY OF OUR ORGANIZATION IN A WAY THAT ENGAGES PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE MEMBERS?

PROJECT MOTIVATION

For over 40 years, the Hispanic Business Students Association has produced some of the most influential Hispanic leaders in the state of Arizona. The alumni have gone out to become CEOs, business owners, and even executives in Fortune 1000 companies. For the 2016 Fall semester, the HBSA executive board had as a focus to re-engage these leaders in order to leverage their experience to help current students who were still in college.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

We wanted to tell a story to all the alumni who were part of HBSA that they were part of a 40-year legacy even if their time with the organization did not exceed beyond their college years. The quickest and most effective way to tell this story was through a short video production where we tracked down some of the organization’s leaders from different generations to tell us about the impact that HBSA had on their lives and careers.

VIDEO TESTIMONIALS

"[The production team] did an incredible job of creating the “best” ever HBSA production with the Legacy Video which was showcased at the 43rd HBSA Anniversary Banquet and Awards Dinner.  This video showed past HBSA students leaders reflecting on their learning experiences and professional outcomes as a result of being an active member of HBSA.  The video resulted in a standing ovation by over 400 guests.  Juan Pablo Forno is commended for his creative efforts, skills, expertise and accomplishment.”

I often noted Juan Pablo's personal drive to take programs, initiatives and events to new levels for the purpose of informative growth and sustainability, rather than shortsighted hype. One of many examples of this was his determination to launch a new Legacy Video project so that the HBSA could celebrate its long legacy with substance, not just hearsay. He met often with me, and many others from past years of service to and leadership of the organization, and completed other formal and informal research into why the organization was formed, how it has grown and changed over the decades, and what he and future student leaders can do to perpetuate its mission.  In short, his goal was to provide a tribute to founders and early leaders while also inspiring current and future members, supporters and sponsors to engage with the HBSA, allowing for new alliances and a variety of partnerships. Juan Pablo felt is necessary to remind contemporary HBSA-ers of their history and value from whence they came, so as to knowledgably work toward where they may be headed.

"It was nice seeing familiar faces. I enjoyed the recognition of Dr. O and all of his years of service to the organization. It was a nice tribute and it exemplified the strength of the organization within the ASU community and it's strong sense of familia through the years. For those who are new or unfamiliar to the organization, it is a good representation of what HBSA is all about."

"Juan Pablo Forno and his team did a fabulous job putting together our HBSA Legacy video.  He took this project from start to finish.  I feel that Juan Pablo and his team captured the heart and soul of what HBSA stands for as an organization.  The feedback from fellow alums was very positive.  The Legacy video gives people a better understanding of the organization."
